You must have the RealAudio Player to play these type of files(I recommend the free G2 Player)
Click on link above to download. Save the file on your hard drive (remember where you put it!)
After downloading, you need to install the downloaded file. This can be done by double clicking on the file(via Windows Explorer) or by clicking on Start, Run, Browse(find and click on the file you downloaded), Open, OK. Follow on screen directions.
After you have installed the RealAudio Player software on your computer, you will now be able to play RealAudio files!
These type of files can be recognized by the extensions .ra, .rm, .ram
Just click on those types of links and that's it! The files should start to play!
If you click on a file that has the extensions .ra, or .rm, (look at the bottom of your browser's window [Netscape or Internet Explorer]- you will see the URL address of the file that you have your mouse over) this means that you will be DOWNLOADING the file. This may take time depending on your modem and internet connection
If you click on a file that has the extension .ram, then the file will STREAM to you and will begin in a few seconds.
You need to have RealAudio encoding software. Go to Real Audio to purchase the software. You may be able to find an older free version (Version 3.0)but you may have to search for it. I'm not sure if it is still available from their site. The Real Producer Plus software allows .avi, .mov, .qt, .wav, .au, .mpg, and .mpeg files to be encoded. After encoding you need to make a .ram file
Open an ascii editor such as Notepad
Type the URL address of where your .rm or .ra file is or will be (Such as http://www.mywebsite.com/myaudio/songtitle.rm)
Save the file with the extension .ram(such as mysong.ram) Be sure that the Save as Type window is selected to All Files
Upload your .rm, or .ra file(s) and your .ram file(s)to your web server
Place a link on your web page that points to your .ram file(for streaming) or .rm, .ra file(for downloading)
You must have a MP3 Player to play these type of files(I recommend the free Winamp Player)
After you have installed the Mp3 Player software on your computer, you will now be able to play Mp3 files!
These type of files can be recognized by the extensions .mp3. Clicking on a Mp3 file will either begin to download the file or the Windows Media Player will pop up and attempt to stream the file.
This is useful if you just want to sample the music then if you decide you want to keep the file you can save the file in a Favorites Folder.
For those who don't want to use the Windows Media Player, when you come across a file that you want to download and save, right click and Save Target As to your hard drive. After it has finished downloading then you can open your Mp3 player of your choice, then open the saved downloaded file
You need to have MP3 encoding software. Go to Music Match to purchase or you can find many free encoders. Follow directions of software to encode (very easy)
Upload your encoded files to your server then place a link to it from your web page.
